Redfern Waterloo Heritage Taskforce

In early 2010 the Redfern Waterloo established the Redfern Waterloo Heritage Taskforce and subsequently a Eveleigh Steering Committee. Here you can find out more about the RWHT and ESC.
Redfern Waterloo Heritage Taskforce (RWHT)
The Redfern Waterloo Heritage Taskforce (RWHT) was set up late 2009 by Mininster for Redfern Waterloo Kristina Keneally with the purpose of "to identify opportunities for the active conservation, interpretation and, where appropriate, the adaptive reuse of the cultural, natural and archaeological heritage of the Redfern Waterloo area in tandem with the revitalisation and renewal of the area. The Taskforce seeks to achieve enhanced public understanding of the history of the area and its significance to residents, workers and visitors and will include the promotion of the unique heritage and culture of this area through the fostering of active links with the community, as well as with tourism, education and recreation activities." Here you will find information about the RWHT.

The Report has been prepared for the RWA's Redfern Waterloo Heritage Taskforce by 3D Projects in association with Artscape and Only Human who conducted a Field Day as a part of their preparation of the Eveleigh Railway Workshops Interpretation Plan. The 2010 Field Day Report captured some Eveleigh worker stories. File is 1.6MB PDF.
File Eveleigh Railway Workshops Interpretation Plan - Draft and Final Comparison
REDWatch has produced a document which compares the Draft Eveleigh Railway Workshops Interpretation Plan exhibited in April 2011 with the Final Report released in March 2012. No report setting out the issues raised in submissions was produced by the RWA / SMDA, nor was there anything that explained why some submission ideas were not accepted or what had changed. One area of concern to REDWatch is that there is no replacement body to deal with Heritage issues across the entire site. This document is provided so it is easy to see what has changed from the Draft. It shows both reports side by side with the deletions and additions shown in colour. It is electronically produced and is a guide only and to be certain of a change the two documents should be manually checked. This is a large document at 7MB PDF.
Eveleigh Heritage Plan finalised
The SMDA has released on its website the Eveleigh Railway Workshops Interpretation Plan following Public Exhibition in April 2011 and Ministerial approval. Also released was the 2010 Eveleigh Field Day Project Report which included some great stories of ex-workers. Together they provide some good stories, and an overview of the heritage significance of Eveleigh, how it can be preserved and celebrated writes Geoff Turnbull in the April 2012 edition of The South Sydney Herald.

Attempts are still being made to re-establish such a heritage co-ordination mechanism. File is 143 KB PDF.
