Intervention threatens Foster's development: Moore

The Lord Mayor of Sydney has accused the New South Wales Government of derailing an agreement over the development of the Carlton and United Breweries site on Broadway reports ABC News 9 June 2006.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore says the council was about to sign an agreement with Foster's, when the Government threatened to intervene.

She says the threat has caused Foster's to retreat.

"It puts at risk two years of comprehensive work that's had the best input of some of the best architectural planning minds in the city," she said.

But Planning Minister Frank Sartor says the process has been longer.

"After three years, not two years, three years of faffing about with this developer, it's about time to get some decisions," he said.

He says a decision has not yet been made about whether the Government will take control of the project.
