NEW BOARD MEMBERS FOR REDFERN WATERLOO AUTHORITY

This is a media release made on 30th August 2006 announcing the addition of Warren Mundine and Ann Weldon to the Redfern Waterloo Authority Board.

Minister for Redfern-Waterloo Frank Sartor today announced the appointment of two new Board members to the Redfern Waterloo Authority.

Mr Sartor said Warren Mundine and Ann Weldon will be valuable additions to the high level Board, chaired by Professor David Richmond.

“These new appointments bring a wealth of experience to the Board of the Redfern Waterloo Authority,” Mr Sartor said.

“Under its guidance, the RWA is already making a positive difference in this area by streamlining human services and attracting new business investment and jobs growth.

“Today’s release of the final Built Environment Plan marks the completion of Stage One of the NSW Government’s Redfern Waterloo Plan.

“The RWA has facilitated almost $300 million in new investment in the area since it was established last year.

“It will directly invest more than $76 million in new infrastructure for the area – including plans announced today to build a new community health centre and pedestrian and cycle bridge.”

Warren Mundine is the Chief Executive Officer of NSW Native Title Services, which is based in Redfern, and Chair of NSW Labor's Indigenous Policy Committee.

Mr Mundine is also a Board member of the National Aboriginal Islander Skills Development Association, National President of the ALP for 2006 and an Executive member of the St. Joseph's College Indigenous Fund.

Ann Weldon has a long association with Redfern and the surrounding area and has chaired the NSW Aboriginal Housing Board since 2000.

She is the founding member of the Aboriginal Children’s Service and a previous Board member of the Redfern Aboriginal Housing Company, the Redfern Aboriginal Legal Service, the Redfern Murawina Child Care Centre and the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, as well as a Redfern School ASSPA committee member.

Mrs Weldon was elected to the Sydney ATSIC Regional Council for more 10 years, including a term as Chairperson, and was appointed to the inaugural Aboriginal Housing Board in 1998 as an ATSIC nominee.
