Council Meeting for ACI Site Revised Plans - 9th December 2006

Revised plans for the major ACI Site redevelopment, between Bourke, Crescent and Danks Street Waterloo, will be discussed at a public meeting next Saturday, 9 December.

The meeting is your opportunity to comment on the revised proposal for stages 9 and 10 before the site owner, Meriton, finalises its plans and lodges them with Council. Meriton's consultants and Council officers outline the proposal, explain how it will be assessed and answer your questions.

Previous plans for the site included 241 units in five towers, with heights from seven to 15 storeys. Meriton revised its plans in response to concerns from residents and the Central Sydney Planning Committee. However, I remain concerned about some aspects, particularly supermarket access from Crescent Street, which residents previously opposed strongly.

The revised plans add a new childcare centre and include:

  • three residential towers which vary in height from 6 to 15 storeys with 203 units;
  • 3,790sq metres of retail space including a 2,642sq metre supermarket and 11 shops, down from the 13 originally planned;
  • entry and exit to the basement supermarket car park is via Crescent Street, with the loading dock accessed via Crescent Street with exit via Danks Street;
  • access to the residential car park from Crescent Street with a secondary access on Danks Street; and
  • a total of 432 car parking spaces, compared to 399 in the original proposal.

If approved, these plans will complete the final stages of the ACI site redevelopment. You will be able make a formal written submission on the revised proposal after it is lodged with Council and publicly exhibited in early 2007.
