Football lands in Redfern

The PCYC FC-South Sydney will be based at the Alexandria Park School on Park Road, Alexandria, and will be operated in conjunction with the South Sydney PCYC, with all players receiving membership to the club as part of their registration.

To encourage participation by children and young people from the local areas of Alexandria and Redfern, registration costs will be kept to an all-time low. On application, parents with children playing in the Under 6s to Under 10s category will have an option of trading their volunteer hours for the lower registration fees. Included in the registration are playing shorts and socks.

PCYC FC-South Sydney is one of three football clubs being established by PCYC in 2007, the others being PCYC FC-Western Sydney based at Mount Druitt and a merger with the existing Parramatta Eagles Junior Soccer Club to form PCYC FC-Parramatta.

The new PCYC Football Club at Redfern is proud to become the sister club of the Redfern Raiders, a long established club in the Redfern area, with a focus on older teenagers and adults. PCYC FC-South Sydney aims to be a feeder club for young players into the Redfern Raiders.

PCYC is calling for volunteers to help establish and maintain the operation of the club, and positions include coaches, managers, canteen, equipment manager, fund raising and some committee positions.

The first registration day will be held on Saturday February 10 from 9am to 12pm at the PCYC South Sydney, 638 Elizabeth Street, Redfern, and again on Tuesday February 13 from 4pm to 7pm. Players wanting to register are asked to bring along their birth certificate and a passport-sized photograph.
