Dirty tactics - Govt sneaks through Fosters Plans for the Carlton United Brewery Site

On the eve of a public rally tomorrow demanding better planning outcomes, the Iemma Government today sold out the Chippendale community by pushing through Fosters plans for the redevelopment of the Carlton United Brewery site reports the Coalition Chippendale Community Groups.

Just six weeks out from the election, the approval follows yesterday’s decision for the similarly controversial East Darling Harbour project - a day after the Opposition put the inherent issues from unsustainable development in the front page news.

What’s proposed for Chippendale will destroy the character and fabric of our historic village as well as set a damning precedent for future planning controls across the state.

Multiple skyscrapers overshadowing canyon-like streets and thousands of vehicles will dominate one of the City’s oldest villages, with a tiny park barely larger than a few blocks of suburban land, the trade off for nearly 8,000 residents/workers.  In short, no amount of spin will hide the outcome when it's realised.

Incredibly, as a consequence of the decision, the Redfern Waterloo Authority (the Government) is set to receive tens of millions of dollars.

If you like us are disgusted by the Iemma Government’s announcement today, we urge you to JOIN us tomorrow at 11am (Sunday 11 February) in Hyde Park (just north of the Archibald Fountain) to voice your outrage!

Please note - due to the Chinese New Year parade, city traffic may be disrupted in the morning - we suggest walk or take a train to Martin Place station.
