Gucci - from Milan to Redfern

MILAN came to Redfern last night as luxury Italian fashion house Gucci launched it's spring/summer 2007 collection to a packed VIP crowd of 300 style setters reports Jen Melocco on The Daily Telegraph March 21, 2007.

The complete collection of 54 outfits from the leading designer brand was rolled out in Sydney for the first time as Gucci put on its biggest Australian show for the label-hungry city.

Every detail of Gucci's Milan spring summer/fashion launch, which was held in the Italian city in September last year, was re-created at Carriageways - the former railway repair yards venue at Redfern.

A giant mirrored catwalk and mirrored seats ensured the A-list crowd - which included Justin Hemmes, Terry Biviano and Erin McNaught - could view the luxury clothes from every possible angle.

But international chic doesn't come cheaply - the brilliantly-toned maxi-dresses (modelled by Victoria Secret's newest Aussie recruit MIranda Kerr) may have been a catwalk favourite but they start at about $10,000.

Smaller launches of the season's latest looks have been held in past years but last night's show was created to satisfy heavier demand for the label.

Gucci Australia managing director Helen Koo said: "Gucci has always been a highly desirable brand and local consumers are more savvy than a few years ago."
