The operation, comprising specialist police from the Central
Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad, Redfern Local Area Command, the
NSW Police Dog Unit, and Botany Bay Highway Patrol.
Detective Inspector Damien Beaufils, from the Region Enforcement Squad,
said the operation was an ongoing strategy targeting robbery, property
theft, drug crime and anti-social behaviour.
“We utilised the NSW Police Drug Dog Unit and conducted high visibility
policing targeting crime hot spots. Sixty two people were searched
resulting in 11 people being charged for drug possession, and four
cannabis cautions being issued,” said Det Insp Beaufils.
“A total of 20 Court Attendance Notices were issued for various
offences including outstanding warrants and drink driving. A number of
traffic breaches were also issued for registration and licence
offences.
“Police also enforced the use of Alcohol Free Zones moving on anyone consuming alcohol in these areas.
“By conducting this operation we are sending a strong message to the
community in relation to anti–social behaviour. It simply will not be
tolerated.
“This operation was part of an ongoing initiative to drive down all
types of crime within the local community making it a safer place.
Police have not ruled out running similar high visibility operations in
the future. We are also urging the community to play their part in
reducing anti-social and criminal behaviour by reporting incidents to
Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, “ he said.
