Operation Laser 2 - Redfern

Operation Laser 2 was conducted in the Redfern Local Area Command on Friday September 19 with great results reports this media re;ease of Monday, 22 Sep 2008 from police media.

The operation, comprising specialist police from the Central Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad, Redfern Local Area Command, the NSW Police Dog Unit, and Botany Bay Highway Patrol.

Detective Inspector Damien Beaufils, from the Region Enforcement Squad, said the operation was an ongoing strategy targeting robbery, property theft, drug crime and anti-social behaviour.

“We utilised the NSW Police Drug Dog Unit and conducted high visibility policing targeting crime hot spots. Sixty two people were searched resulting in 11 people being charged for drug possession, and four cannabis cautions being issued,” said Det Insp Beaufils.

“A total of 20 Court Attendance Notices were issued for various offences including outstanding warrants and drink driving. A number of traffic breaches were also issued for registration and licence offences.

“Police also enforced the use of Alcohol Free Zones moving on anyone consuming alcohol in these areas.

“By conducting this operation we are sending a strong message to the community in relation to anti–social behaviour. It simply will not be tolerated.

“This operation was part of an ongoing initiative to drive down all types of crime within the local community making it a safer place. Police have not ruled out running similar high visibility operations in the future. We are also urging the community to play their part in reducing anti-social and criminal behaviour by reporting incidents to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, “ he said.
