Letter from Lord Mayor to Member of Heffron regarding Aldi DAs

The following letter from Clover Moore has been received by Heffron MP Kristina Keneally in reply to representations made about proposed Aldi Supermarkets in her electorate.

Dear Ms Keneally

DA D/2009/633 - 863-871 Bourke Road, Waterloo
DA D/2009/185 - 261-265 Chalmers Street, Redfern

- 261-265 Chalmers Street, Redfern

I refer to your letter about the development applications (DAs) for an Aldi supermarket at 863-871 Bourke Road and an IGA supermarket at 261-265 Chalmers Street. I note your concerns.

Aaron Sutherland is the City Planner looking after the Aldi proposal and David Hannam is the City Planner looking after the IGA proposal. Aaron and David will consider your comments and contact your office if they need to discuss the issues you have raised.

The City notified these DAs in accordance with our Notification of Planning and Development Controls Development Control Plan. We always aim to get input on DAs from a range of residents, and hold regular community forums where all members of the community can come to ask questions about development in their area.

The City has received a submission to the Aldi proposal from the People's Precinct of Waterloo with 200 signatories, which City staff will consider as part of the assessment process.

Council's Planning, Development and Transport Committee will consider these proposals in an open meeting you or your representative can address. The Committee generally meets in the Council Chamber of Town Hall House (behind Sydney Town Hall) on Level 3, 456 Kent Street, Sydney every third Monday, the week before Council meetings. A list of meeting dates is available from the One Stop Shop behind the Town Hall (Level 2, Town Hall House, 456 Kent Street); on the City's website, www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au - select the 'Council' dropdown menu; or by calling the City's Customer Service Centre on 9265 9333.

If your staff would like to speak with a Council officer about these DAs or to ensure you are contacted for Committee, they can contact Aaron on 9265 9333 or at asutherland@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au and David on the same number or at dhannam@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au .

Thank you for offering for City staff to attend your regular meetings with public housing tenants in Redfern and Waterloo. The City also holds regular meetings with public housing tenants in this area and others across the City, similar to the ones I have been holding as MP for more than a decade. These meetings cover many issues including local development applications.

Yours sincerely

Clover Moore MP
