Forum Process

REDWatch has arranged two candidate’s forums after the close of nominations so that all registered candidates have the opportunity to attend and present there positions. Sitting members have accepted the invitation to attend the forum for their electorate.

6pm Arrival for 6.30pm prompt start

Each of the forums will start at 6pm to allow time for people to pick up leaflets and other information that candidates (or those standing in the Legislative Council) may supply, to formulate their questions and to have a cup of tea and chat.

Each forum will start promptly at 6.30pm as some candidates need to attend other functions and we want maximum the time for questions.

6.30 Candidates Address the Meeting

After a brief introduction candidates will be asked to address the meetings. The time allowed for these addresses is expected to be 8-10 minutes but will depend on the final number of candidates present.

Questions for the Candidates

Questions for Candidates will follow with questions taken from the floor or given to the chair person in writing. Any questions in writing that have not been dealt with during the question time will be passed on to the candidates to whom they have been addressed for later response directly to the questioner. It is expected that there will be 50-60 minutes for questions depending on the number of candidates. To maximise the number of questions that can be asked, people will be requested to ask specific questions and refrain from makeing lengthy statements.

REDWatch has prepared a paper An Agenda for Redfern Waterloo Changes in 2007 - State Election Issues (PDF 76KB) and we have also provided Questions for Candidates for March 24th 2007 NSW Election PDF (PDF 100Kb) covering the issues raised in the paper. We hope that candidates' responses to these questions will be available on the Election Section of the REDWatch website at least a week before the forums so that answers to some questions will be available before the forum and allow additional follow up questions to be asked at the forums.

Closing Comments from each Candidate

Each forum will end with a brief closing statement from each candidate of about 2-3 minutes.

8.30 pm Finish

The forums aim to end by 8.30pm so candidates can go to other functions or meet individually with people.

Please let your neighbours know about the forums and take the opportunity to come along and ask your questions of the candidates about what they and their parties plan to do about the issues facing Redfern Waterloo.
