Can the RWA deliver an upgrade of Redfern Station that links the area together or is the station in the too hard basket? When will a decision be made about the Sale of North Eveleigh? Where is the Heritage and Tourism Taskforce and what protection will there be for heritage in the ATP Sale?</strong></p>

Jan will talk about the “Redfern Business Precinct Study” and Council’s actions with the Chamber to address the issues raised. Jan will speak at 6.30 immediately following the AGM.

    <title>Erskineville, Newtown &amp; Darlington Pedestrian, Cycling &amp; Traffic Calming Plan Feedback - 2 September 2009</title>

    <description>To improve your local area for walkers, cylists and local traffic the City is developing a series of Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming Plans. These are community-driven plans which will manage and calm traffic on local roads, increase pedestrian, bicycle and public transport access and provide better safety and amenity for local residents. </description>

<p><strong>The City’s PCTC plans will also: </strong></p>
<ul><li>improve walking access to, and safety around, local schools</li><li>prioritise installation of new street crossings and traffic calming devices</li><li>plan for improved and new cycleways</li><li>improve access to public transport</li><li>re-direct through-traffic to State and regional roads </li></ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><strong>What will happen at the meeting?</strong></h2>
<p>To finalise a PCTC plan, the City of Sydney works very closely with local residents taking the following steps</p>
<ul><li>We will present our draft PCTC plan</li><li>You will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft plan</li></ul>
<p><strong>Proposals in the draft plan include:</strong></p>
<ul><li>Pedestrian and cycling access improvements across the area, including intersections on Wilson Street and Abercrombie Street</li><li>Working with the RTA to install new crossings missing at signalised intersections and a new crossing along Mallett Street</li><li>Cycleway projects on Missenden Road, Wilson Street and Shepherd Street</li><li>Kerb extensions and additional crossings along King Street, and potential new bike parking.</li></ul>

<p><span class="apple-style-span"><em>The Australian prison population has increased by nearly 50 per cent over the past ten years&nbsp;</em></span><span class="apple-style-span">(ABS 2003).</span> <span class="apple-style-span"><em>More alarming is the reported 110 per cent increase in the female prisoner population, the 8 per cent increase in the unsentenced prison population,&nbsp;</em></span><span class="apple-style-span"><em>and the 5 per cent increase in the Indigenous prisoner population over the same period.</em></span></p>

<p><span class="apple-style-span"><em>“The advice to me is we have still got 500 cells empty. I don’t mind if we fill them up, and if we fill them up and have to build another jail, we’ll build another jail”</em></span><span class="apple-style-span">&nbsp;</span><span class="apple-style-span">(Premier Nathan Rees).</span></p>
