Once again it is time to go to Maitland for the Steamfest Festival. As with last year the only scheduled heritage train service running from Sydney Terminal will be the Old Mateland Steamfest Flyer, a special charter with a heritage diesel locomotive
pulling heritage carriages.
Join us on Saturday, 19th April 2006 as we travel the scenic main north line across Hawkesbury River, along Mullet Creek and the Brisbane Waters, through the suburbs of Newcastle and on to Maitland, arriving in time for lunch. During the ecumenical service a Roll of Honour bearing names of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and servicewomen who participated in the 2007 Redfern ANZAC Day events and of other Aboriginal servicemen and servicewomen will be formally unveiled during the St Saviours service. This truly unique Roll of Honour is being prepared by celebrated Redfern Aboriginal artist Adam Hill.

1.15pm: March to St Saviours Church, Redfern

1.45pm: St Saviours Church Ecumenical Service

3.45pm: Service Finish

  • Service followed by afternoon tea in St Saviours Church Hall from 3.45 – 4.30pm

"The City of Sydney invites you to join us in witnessing and celebrating the historic moment of the Federal Parliament saying ‘sorry’ to members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Stolen Generations. All members of the community are welcome” - Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.

The City will provide two opportunities to view the live to air telecast on 13 February at 9am

  • Large screen in Martin Place in conjunction with the NSW State Government
  • Indoor and outdoor screens at the Redfern Community Centre, 29 Hugo Street Redfern.

In addition to the 9am screening, Redfern Community Centre will hold:

A replay of the formal apology from 3pm with our Acknowledgement to Country, speeches by Elders from the local Aboriginal community, members of the Stolen Generations, the Lord Mayor and young people from the local community.

Other activities throughout the day include a community BBQ, children’s activities, film screenings, and live entertainment.
A community bus to the Redfern event will leave from the following locations:

  • 8am - Juanita Nielsen Leisure Centre cnr of Nicholson & Dowling Streets, Woolloomooloo.
  • 8am - Ultimo Community Centre 40 William Henry St, Ultimo.
  • 8.15am Glebe Library 186 Glebe Point Rd, Glebe. (rear car park).

Over 200 black and white and colour carefully culled photographs, or perhaps they may even ‘visual transcripts’, are being exhibited in the collection at the opening within a church setting, providing the exhibition with a sense of the sacred and surreal. Elaine's passion for documentary photography was kindled during the1970s when Indigenous legal, medical and land rights became explosive issues. She has had over 15 solo and multiple group exhibitions. This is her first retrospective.

Interact with the cast to change the outcome when two country teenagers visiting the city, are seduced into buying a new mobile phone, but one of them ends up losing their job, their car and their phone!
