Information Event - HSP2 Release & HSP1 Evaluation - 1st August 2008 http://www.redwatch.org.au/Events/080711rwa The RWA has issued invitations to an Information Event on the Redfern Waterloo Human Services Plan Phase Two and presentation of the evaluation findings on the progress of the Redfern Waterloo Human Services Plan Phase One. The Minister for Redfern Waterloo Frank Sartor released the NSW Government approved Phase Two of the Redfern Waterloo Human Services Plan on 11 July, 2008. Phase Two aims to provide improved services for older people, people with disabilities, migrant communities and the homeless in the area.

The Redfern Waterloo Authority is hosting an Information Event to provide further information about the Human Services Plan Phase Two and its implementation.

This event will also include a presentation on the findings of the first evaluation of the progress of the Human Services Plan Phase One.

As numbers will be limited and to assist with catering the RWA has requested invitees to RSVP attendance. If you have not received an invitation or would like more information contact Julie Parsons the RWA Community Relations Manager at the RWA on 9202 9100.

The Redfern Waterloo Authority is preparing the North Eveleigh railway site for sale to a developer.

The Concept Plan for the site which is on public exhibition now will allow the developer to build a large scale commercial and residential development on both sides of Carriageworks extending from Redfern Station to Forbes St along the southern side of Wilson St.

The plan         

  • brings thousands of workers and new residents into the area
  • allows buildings of up to 16 storeys
  • will have a major impact on the amount of traffic in the area
  • contains no sustainability requirements for the developer  

Come along and talk to others about your concerns and what should go into your and others submissions. The RWA have agreed to open YaamaDhiyaan ( 255 Wilson Street Darlington) so anyone who has not seen the model for the plans can see it on the day. In the case of rain we will meet atYaama Dhiyaan without the BBQ.

The community only has until 12th June 2008 to make submissions to the Department of Planning.

All submissions on the Concept Plan must be made in writing to The Department of Planning.

In Sydney this year there will be much more than going to church and feasting. Acknowledging that July One or its Creole equivalent, ‘Zulai 1’ is no longer restricted to celebrating Christianity, the Lagaw Kodo Mir Torres Strait Islander Resource and Culture Centre NSW, with the support of the Australia Council for the Arts, have organised a week long exhibition of high profile Islander artists and performances. On 4 June the Sydney Morning Herald reported that Railcorp is considering resuming and demolishing a block of historic houses in North Newtown to make way for a controversial new CityRail ''relief line''.  We have confirmed that this is a real and imminent threat involving all of Leamington Ave and several properties at the bottom of Pine and Holdsworth Streets.  Up to 34 families  face the heartache of  losing their homes and the amenity of the adjoining streets would be destroyed.  Leamington Ave, along with Pine, Randle and Holdsworth Streets, forms part of the historic Pines Estate Heritage Conservation Area.

  •      Our homes are at risk.
  •      Our community is at risk.
  •      Our neighbourhood heritage is at risk.

Transport NSW will decide on its 'preferred rail alignment' in the coming months.  We have a narrow window of opportunity to defeat this proposal.
