Purpose

To improve your local area for walkers, cyclists and local traffic the City is developing a series of Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming Plans.

These are community-driven plans which will manage and calm traffic on local roads, increase pedestrian, bicycle and public transport access and provide better safety and amenity for local residents.

The City’s PCTC plans will also:

  • Improve walking access to, and safety around, local schools
  • Prioritise installation of new street crossings and traffic calming devices
  • Plan for improved and new cycleways
  • Improve access to public transport
  • Re-direct through-traffic to State and regional roads.

 

What will happen at the meeting?

To finalise a PCTC plan, the City of Sydney works very closely with local residents taking the following steps

  • We will provide an update on the plans for your area
  • You will have the opportunity to talk with the City’s transport planners and area traffic engineers.

 

Proposals in the draft plan include:

  • Pedestrian and cycling access improvements throughout the area
  • Kerb extensions and additional crossings around local streets;
  • New signalised crossing opportunities
  • The investigation and implementation of shared zones through a number of local lanes and streets; and
  • Potential road closures.

The purpose of the expansion is to increase capacity, improve travel times and reduce congestion. This is an important isue for our local community, and now is the time for our area to have input and shape the proposal in its early planning and design stages writes Kristina Keneally to local residents in her letter of 8 December 2009. Kristina Keneally has organised a Public Forum, which will be attended by representatives of the Roads and Traffic Authority to respond to any questions you might have about this project and to ensure your views are hears.

The proposed $4.5 billion M5 corridor expansion includes:
  •  A new arterial road from the M5 East tunnels to the airport and the industrial areas of inner southern Sydney.
  • Widening the exising M5 South West Motorway, operated by Interlink Roads, from two to three lanes in each direction
  • Widening the M5 East Freeway east of King Goerges Road to four lanes in each direction
  • Four new lanes in tunnel to duplicate the existing M5 East tunnel, with improved air management
 
The NSW Government has made a submission to Infrastructure Australia for funding consideration.   By getting the planning work done now we can begin work quickly when funding becomes available.

]]> No publisher REDWatch Meeting 2009-12-11T02:45:00Z Event Darlington Pedestrian Cycling and Traffic Calming Plan Available - Goes to CoS Committee 16 Dec 09 http://www.redwatch.org.au/rwahist/media/091216cos The Final Report for the Newtown Erskineville Camperdown and Darlington Pedestrian Cycling and Traffic Calming Plan is now publically available. It is going to the 16 December 2009 CoS Traffic Committee before being endorsed by Council in 2010. There was no report available to the community when the CoS put on exhibition their proposal for what should happen. Pedestrian, cycling and traffic counts are available in the Final Technical Report. The Final Technical Report and recommendations should take into account comments made by the community at the community forum and in the couple of weeks afterwards.

Those with an interest in what Council is proposing for the Newtown Erskineville Camperdown and Darlington Pedestrian Cycling and Traffic Calming Plan should consult the report and take the opportunity to raise their concerns at the 16 December 2009 CoS Traffic Committee meeting.

You are entitled to make a representation at the Traffic Committee.  However in order to do this, you will need to contact Claudia Calabro via email (ccalabro@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au) including a brief description of what your concerns are. 

Due to the timing of this report going to committee it will not go to Council until February so there will be some extra time between the report being considered by the Traffic Committee and the Council for people to raise any concerns with Councillors.

We would like to invite you to a public information session about the Conservation Management Plan. The session will be held on site on Monday, 7 December 2009, from 4-6pm in meeting room 6A, Level 1, Bay 6 Locomotive Workshops (please enter via Bay 8).

It has been a number of years since a Conservation Management Plan was prepared for the site and previous plans have addressed the Locomotive Workshops building only. This new Conservation Management Plan would address the Australian Technology Park site as a whole, including its significant machinery, and would take into account the changes that have occurred to the site since most railway operations at Eveleigh closed in 1988.

This session provides an opportunity for stakeholders, interested parties and local community members to reflect on the significance of the former Eveleigh locomotive workshops and the changes that have occurred to the site over the past 20 years.

The information session would also provide an opportunity for stakeholders and the local community to raise issues they have regarding the site's management

As part of the CMP revision there will be a consultation about the CMP revision on 7th December 2009 between 4-6pm at the ATP. There is concern as some equipment covered previously by the 1995 CMP and and the Management Plan for Moveablew Items has been marked with large pink crosses and tagged for disposal before any consultation. The Inner West Community Forum on Tuesday 17 November at Erskineville Town Hall includes updates on the Newtown Railway Station upgrade, the UTS City Campus Master Plan and Frasers Broadway's CUB redevelopment.

Presentations at the forum, for Chippendale, Darlington, Newtown, Erskineville and Eveleigh residents, will also include information on City's cycleway network, including separated cycleway projects on Missenden Road and Wilson, Abercrombie, Codrington and Shepherd Streets.

City staff will present on how we can save energy and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Our vision for a sustainable Sydney is only achievable with your involvement and support.

From 6pm, you will be able to discuss your concerns with Councillors,

City staff and local Police before formal presentations begin at 6.45pm.
