Yet another Update!

Yes we know it is Christmas and hopefully by now the RWA will know it also! We hoped that the last update would be the last for the year (it was not just a Christmas Greeting although a few people who looked at it through a preview screen thought that’s all it was). Now we have seen and analysed the Final RWA Human Services Plan approved by NSW Cabinet we thought it would save people a lot of time if we sent out yet another Update providing a link to our analysis.

For surely the last time this year … Have a Merry and Relaxing Christmas and Great New Year

RWA Human Services Plan Analysed

The RWA has posted the Redfern-Waterloo Human Services Plan (pdf ~298kb) on its website and a printed version will be available in the New Year. The human services page on the RWA website has also been updated.

In the interest of transparency we have undertaken a text comparison between the Draft which was out for consultation and the final document. This will help you quickly identify the major changes (many of which are in Christmas colours if that makes it more palatable at this time of the year). The analysis is in a 269 Kb Word File. We will not go into a detailed commentary here except top say that there are some changes especially in Implementation and Reform, but there are not changes in many of the areas where concerns were raised during the consultation. The comparison can be found at http://www.redwatch.org.au/RWA/humanservices/hspcompare/download .

If you want to share your comments on the final version of the Human Services Plan with others you can post your comments on the REDWatch site at http://www.redwatch.org.au/discussion-forum

RWA Annual Report

The RWA Annual Report has been posted in full with all the photos
Annual Report - Full Version
(pdf ~12mb) as well as Annual Report - Text Only Version (pdf ~275kb) for those looking for a smaller download. A printed version is available from the RWA on request. We are sure people on dial up will appreciate this gesture by the RWA of providing a smaller version. Just be aware however that the page numbers in both versions differ if you go to quote it with attribution.

Draft Employment and Enterprise Plan

Minister Sartor has also released a Media Release about Draft Employment & Enterprise Plan (pdf ~177kb).

Local Media Stories

REDWatch has added a few articles concerning Redfern Waterloo issues from the recent Southside News and South Sydney Herald to their website for those who may not have seen the recent issues. They can be viewed at http://www.redwatch.org.au/inthemediatopic

ICAC Discussion Paper on reforming development approval processes in NSW

You may have noticed the SMH article Get councillors out of planning, watchdog urges where the NSW ICAC has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interests with councilors and consent authorities. Some of the issues also relate to a consent authority like the RWA. The ICAC has put out a discussion paper and more information can be found at http://www.icac.nsw.gov.au/index.cfm?objectID=45E58AC0-D176-6158-341024A43A0FB8EE . Submissions close on February 28 2006.

REDWatch Meeting Sunday 22nd January 2006 2pm Factory Community Centre

REDWatch has asked Robert Domm along to the next REDWatch meeting and we hope he will be able to talk about the Built Environment Plan by then. Even if this is still a work in progress we hope Robert will be able to give us an overview of where he sees the RWA going in 2006. There is also the recently released Employment and Enterprise Plan to be discussed. So, if you are around then you are welcome to come along and be involved in the discussion and to get involved in the group. REDWatch meets at The Factory, 67 Raglan Street Waterloo.
