The purpose of the expansion is to increase capacity, improve travel times and reduce congestion. This is an important isue for our local community, and now is the time for our area to have input and shape the proposal in its early planning and design stages writes Kristina Keneally to local residents in her letter of 8 December 2009. Kristina Keneally has organised a Public Forum, which will be attended by representatives of the Roads and Traffic Authority to respond to any questions you might have about this project and to ensure your views are hears.

Time:  6.30p.m to 8.30 p.m.
 
The proposed $4.5 billion M5 corridor expansion includes:
  •  A new arterial road from the M5 East tunnels to the airport and the industrial areas of inner southern Sydney.
  • Widening the exising M5 South West Motorway, operated by Interlink Roads, from two to three lanes in each direction
  • Widening the M5 East Freeway east of King Goerges Road to four lanes in each direction
  • Four new lanes in tunnel to duplicate the existing M5 East tunnel, with improved air management
 
The NSW Government has made a submission to Infrastructure Australia for funding consideration.   By getting the planning work done now we can begin work quickly when funding becomes available.

The Minister for Redfern Waterloo Frank Sartor released the NSW Government approved Phase Two of the Redfern Waterloo Human Services Plan on 11 July, 2008. Phase Two aims to provide improved services for older people, people with disabilities, migrant communities and the homeless in the area.

The Redfern Waterloo Authority is hosting an Information Event to provide further information about the Human Services Plan Phase Two and its implementation.

This event will also include a presentation on the findings of the first evaluation of the progress of the Human Services Plan Phase One.

As numbers will be limited and to assist with catering the RWA has requested invitees to RSVP attendance. If you have not received an invitation or would like more information contact Julie Parsons the RWA Community Relations Manager at the RWA on 9202 9100.

The City of Sydney is working with the Redfern Community Centre and Sustainable Action Values Everyone (SAVE) to establish a Community Garden in Hugo Reserve, Redfern.

The garden will:

  • be open to the public;

  • provide a valuable educational resource for the community; and

  • be a place to grow herbs and vegetables, to socialise and relax.

The discussion will focus on the design concept, and we would like to hear your ideas on making this a welcoming and attractive space.
