Family and Culture Day: Family and Culture Day, a grassroots community oriented event, is at The Block in Redfern. The aim of this event, which takes place on the last Saturday of each month, is to bring families back to The Block and to show off the incredible talent within the Redfern Indigenous community. For the children there is a jumping castle, face painting and other entertainment.

Lion’s share of fundraising effort: The Redfern-Waterloo Lions Club raises money the old-fashioned way: with barbecues and bake sales, rather than hefty corporate donations. By mastering the art of the small gesture, the fledgling club has raised money for programs as diverse as the annual Yabun Aboriginal Festival, Lions Hearing Dogs Australia, and the Tribal Warrior Association. “It was about bringing people together,” says John Lanzky, co-founder of the Redfernbased outfit.
