Lights, Camera, Action Film Night & BBQ

Lights Camera Action will be hosting a movie night as a part of Youth Week celebrations. BBQ at the Redfern Community Centre next Wednesday the 9th of April. Babana Aboriginal Mens Group will also be hosting a BBQ featuring performances by local artists. All welcome!

The City of Sydney Council commenced a long term planning project for Sydney in 2007 and made public their Draft Sustainable Sydney 2030 Plan on 26th March 2008. Following the report being considered by Council it will go on exhibition from April 17 to may 31 2008. Here we have some links to the documents on exhibition and a summary showing specific references to Redfern Waterloo.

Inquiry into Overcoming Indigenous Disadvantage 2008

In 2007 the Standing Committtee on Social Issues of the Legislative Council anounced an "Inquiry into Overcoming Indigenous Disadvantage". The terms of reference allow the Inquiry to investigate the outcome of earlier Inquiries dealing with aboriginal issues which brings the 2004 "Inquiry into Issues relating to Redfern & Waterloo" under the tems of reference. Submissions close on 31st March 2008 and we have collected material relevant to Redfern Waterloo on this section of the site.

Review and Evaluation of the progress of the Human Services Plan Phase One

The RWA Submission to the NSW Inquiry into Overcoming Indigenous Disadvantage Provides details of a current Review and Evaluation of the RWA Human Services Plan. REDWatch has written to the RWA seeking further information on the review and on the “Consultation with key stakeholders including government agencies, non government agencies and community” to which it refers. The RWA has provided further clarification to REDWatch which indicates that the consultant is currently meeting with some NGO’s involved in implementing the HSP that contrary to that which was said in the Inquiry “consultation with the community to identify their understanding, perceptions and feedback on the impact of the Human Services Plan would be a separate piece of research … not in the current scope of the review project”. Below we have posted the text of the RWA submission on this subject and the RWA CEO’s clarification to REDWatch.

The University of Sydney abuts the suburb of Darlington. Over the years the University has been buying up the area and consolidating their land holdings. As an example the current Darlington Primary School was built to replace the old Darlington school which was taken over by the University. With proposals in late 2007 to consolidate the University's Abercrombie Street precinct the school will again be surrounded on two sides by the University campus.
