Presents a Community Forum on the

Redfern Waterloo Social Impact Assessment

What is it? Why is it being done? Who is doing it? Why care? What Can Go Wrong?

Including a Presentation by the

Sydney Metropolitan Development Authority (SMDA)

The Sydney Metropolitan Development Authority is a Government Authority which will undertake a number of studies in Redfern and Waterloo under the Growth Centre’s Act initially connected to BEP2. It absorbed the RWA. SMDA will introduce the Authority and the Studies it is doing before focusing on the Redfern Waterloo Social Impact Assessment (SIA) with GHD, the consultants doing the SIA study. The SMDA has recently advised that the Social Impact Assessment will now also include the Facilities Review which was not completed in 2011. Consultations for the SIA start in February.

This will be followed by a Presentation by

Dr Alison Ziller

A social planner & lecturer on Social Impact Assessments at UWS and Macquarie Uni

REDWatch has asked Alison Ziller to attend as an independent expert to explain what Social Impact Assessment is about, how it works, what the problems are when using Social Impact Assessments in long term, multi-stage projects like that being proposed for Redfern Waterloo. This should enable members of the community to better understand, participate and monitor the SMDA & Housing NSW processes.
