The Australian Technology Park has placed its Draft Conservation Management Plan (CMP) on exhibition and extended the comment period until 6 July. The Draft CMP can be found on the ATP site under AUSTRALIAN TECHNOLOGY PARK DRAFT CONSERVATION MANAGEMENT PLAN.

The CMP is the main conservation management document for ATP and provides the guiding conservation policies for the site.  The CMP is also used in the development consent process to guide the ATP and the Heritage Council in dealing with any development or work on part of a site which is on the State Heritage Register.

The draft CMP has been prepared by Godden Mackay Logan Pty Ltd (GML) and aims to review and replace the 1995 CMP and the Draft 2002 Otto Cserhalmi & Partners Draft CMP for the Locomotive Workshops that was not approved by the Heritage Council. It provides a good historical overview of the site.

When CMPs are revised provisions get changed so it is very important for those that are concerned with the area’s heritage to go through the draft CMP and raise any issues. It is better to make the provisions strong now rather than lament in the future that some protections in the 1995 CMP or something that could have been added might have provided better protection. The 1995 CMP can be found on the ATP site under Heritage Conservation Management Plan

Please note that while the Draft CMP references movable heritage and the ATP Section 170 register, the Draft CMP does not currently cover this movable heritage. This is still covered in part by the 1995 CMP which included movable heritage and the ATP Section 170 Register. While the ATP propose to review its Section 170 over the next year it has not yet been decided if it will be covered by a separate CMP. With the SMDA now to be wound into the new "Landcom on Steroids" Urbangrowth NSW it is not yet clear who will be responsible for the ATP. THis is important because Section 170 Registers only apply to Government owned bodies.
