Public housing residents in Chicago are working to develop a Residents’ Research Bill of Rights in response to continued academic interest in their communities. The document aims to give residents more control in the research process, including asking researchers to sign resident-generated consent forms. It also addresses ways to create a formal role for residents in data collection, and the dissemination of findings to participants. The goals of the Research Bill of Rights are to mediate power differentials between researchers and community members, acknowledge resident knowledge and expertise, and to protect resident-identified interests.
If you have an interest in how research is done in our area you should come along to this presentation.
