This month’s REDWatch meeting will be a “Population Dynamics” Workshop looking at the population growth and demographic change in the Inner city. This workshop will explore the most recent population projections for Inner Sydney. What do they say? How are they arrived at? What do they mean for the future of policy and service delivery in our Sydney and our Neighbourhoods? REDWatch holds its monthly public meetings on the first Thursday of the month. We will have input from:

·         Dr Kim Johnstone a Senior Demographer from the Department of Planning and Environment (DP&E). DP&E have recently produced new projections for Sydney and Dr Johnstone has produced the attached article for Inner Sydney Regional Council for Social Development on what those projections mean for the Inner City Region.

·         Tye McMahon, Manager Social Programs and Services at City of Sydney will talk about what these changes mean for the future of service delivery in the City. The city recently presented to a Police community meeting on growth issues and you can see that presentation on the REDWatch website at Current and future Sydney City population growth Floor Space & Employment Survey.

·         Associate Professor Mike Darcy from UWS will also join us, Mike is a prominent researcher on social housing policy and management, and the connections between social disadvantage and place.

·         We have also asked for input from Urban Taskforce and the Local Area Health Service but these are not yet confirmed.

This should be an interesting workshop discussing issues of demographics, population growth and its implications. Anyone is welcome to join us for the presentations, Q&As and discussion on Thursday 4th September 2014 6pm till 8pm at Factory Community Centre 67 Raglan Street Waterloo. Please pass the attached flyer for the session on to anyone who might be interested.
