Do you want to understand what drives developer decisions?

An Introduction to Property Economics

A short course delivered by Professor Peter Phibbs from Sydney University’s Urban Management and Planning Program, and Stewart Lawler a Development Consultant.

The session will cover:

  • some basic economic concepts behind property economics.
  • developer behaviour and motivations
  • how developers interact with the planning system and the community.

Some of the questions covered include:

  • Does increased density always help?
  • Do developers make super profits?
  • Why is extra density more useful sometimes than others?
  • What is the difference between planning bonuses and development charges?
  • What is the role of the landowner?
  • When can the community be the most effective?

This is a 1.5 hours condensed session requested by REDWatch. It will also serve as a taster for a day long course that Peter Phibbs and Stewart Lawler will run for those interested in the topic in greater detail.
