REDWatch Meeting 6 May - Health Equity – what it is and why it is important …. and you get a bite to eat at The Factory

For the 6 May REDWatch meeting, Fiona Haigh is talking about Health Equity – what it is and why is it important. This is a timely presentation and discussion as the Waterloo Human Services Collaborative begins to develop the action plan for addressing human service delivery issues in Waterloo, which include health.

Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.  It is different to equality which means each individual or group of people are given the same resources or opportunities. An equity approach is especially important for people in public housing, who often don’t have access to the same resources or opportunities that some other parts of the community enjoy and hence do not have the same health outcomes as those with more resources.

Fiona is a specialist in Health Impact Assessments. She has a mixed legal and health background that enables her to bring an equity lens to how the health system functions, especially people’s ability to access services and the opportunity to live a healthy life.

This REDWatch meeting is being held in person at The Factory Community Centre 67 Raglan Street Waterloo at 6pm on Thursday 6th May.

RSVP Please: This event is also being held to celebrate Neighbourhood Centre Week, so we will also provide a bite to eat! It’s a public event and everyone is welcome, but please RSVP so we can cater and manage numbers. If you wish to attend, please email REDWatch’s Co-Convenor Adam at a.antonelli@counterpointcs.org.au
