Minister Approves North Eveleigh Concept Plan

Redfern-Waterloo Authority Annual Report 07-08

The following letter was put together by three residents involved in the walk around of the North Eveleigh site with Minister Sartor. This letter was sent by Bruce Lay to Minister Keneally in reaction to problems in the RWA's Prefered Project Report. The letter requests the Minister to establish an Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel to investigate the issues.

Hospital site “for the benefit of local residents”
There is much anxiety among members of the South Sydney community regarding the future of the site where the now derelict Royal South Sydney hospital stands. In June this year, Lord Mayor Clover Moore admitted that the Hillsong Church had expressed interest in the site after its DA for the former RTA site was knocked back. Local residents were concerned that the church would possibly be relocated just up the road on the site where the hospital once operated reports Nicholas McCallum in the South Sydney Herald of October 2008.

RWA North Eveleigh Concept Plan Proposed Changes September 2008
The RWA has submitted to Department of Planning its responses to submissions received during the exhibition of their North Eveleigh Concept Plan in May and June 2008. The RWA’s has also submitted its modifications to the Concept Plan in their Preferred Project Report. Next step for the Pemulwuy Project
The Pemulwuy Project has finally reached exhibition stage and it is now a waiting game for approval. According to Peter Valilis of the Aboriginal Housing Company, “the only reason the project would be knocked back is because the powers that be do not want Aboriginal people back on the Block” reports Elizabeth Hope on Webdiary on 24th September 2008.
