The Development Approval for the building of the Redfern Health Centre included approval for a Needle Dispensing Machine. In 2011-12 when Sydney and South West Sydney Local Health District started to talk about introducing the machine there was strong concern expressed by local businesses and neighbours about the proposal and the earlier approval. In late 2012 and early 2013 Area Health undertook some public meetings to discuss the issues with those interested below you will find material from Area Health setting out the case for such a facility at the Redfern Street front of the Health Centre.

REDWatch will kick off our 2013 meetings with a presentation from UrbanGrowth NSW about the new organisation and the role of the former SMDA now UrbanGrowth Development Corporation (UGDC). This will be at the Factory 67 Raglan Street Waterloo at 6pm Thursday 7th February. REDWatch Meets on the first Thursday of the month except January.

Lift Redfern will meet on Wednesday 30th January 2013 at the factory Community Centre to explore options for the Lift Redfern Station Campaign for 2013. This is an extract of a presentation made by Dr Paul Haber, Medical Director, Drug Health Services on behalf of Sydney and South West Sydney Local Health District to a community meeting on 30 October at Redfern Health Centre. Dr Haber states that the level of Hepatitus C is 10% higher in Redfern/Waterloo on average than either the national or state figures. His presentation also shows that Redfern/Waterloo has almost twice the HIV prevalance of NSW and more than twice the national prevalence. Dr Haber states that people living in Redfern/Waterloo accounted for 30% of all treatment/interventions provided by DHS within Sydney LHD. The file is 486KB PDF.

This presentation was made by Dr Roger Garsia Director HIV Clinical Services SLHD and Chair NSW Ministry Advisory Committee on HIV /AIDS and STI to a community meeting on 30 October at Redfern Health Centre. This presentation sets out the sucessof harm minimisation around the world and why they are important in an area like Redfern Waterloo. It also with why an automated dispensing machine is required. The SMDA website was absorbed into the UrbanGrowth Development Corporation website at the beginning of 2013. REDWatch holds a mirror of the site before UrbanGrowth modified the site but this is not suitable to place on this website. Instead we have collected PDF's of the SMDA website content and as the site changes we will create a series of links from a master document which will allow people to explore the final SMDA site text content. Links to underlying documents do not function but where possible we have advised location of this information.

This section of the site will contain historical information about the operations of the SMDA. Areas which transferred from the RWA to the SMDA and on to UrbanGrowth NSW for which UrganGrowth NSW are not in this section. Historical statements by the SMDA remain in the "Government SMDA & RWA Statements". Historical material about areas for which the RWA & SMDA had planning responsibility have again not been moved as those historical plans are integral to understanding new developments. The absorption of the RWA by the SMDA and then Urbangrowth NSW makes it difficult to draw clear lines of demarcation between material of historical interest and current relevance. The SMDA website has been absorbed by UrbanGrowth and as historical material disappears from that site it will be found here.

The SMDA and Consultants GHD are undertaking Focus Groups in February 2012 on Scoping for a Social Impact Assessment. This is the Focus Group Information Sheet intended for participants. Currently this is the only written information available from the SMDA about the Scoping for the Social Impact Assessment and hence REDWatch is making it available for the information of the broader community. The SMDA welcomes feedback from individuals, organisations and other stakeholders on key issues which they would like considered in the relevant study by the SMDA.

As of 1 January 2013 the Sydney Metropolitan Development Authority (SMDA) will be re-named to become UrbanGrowth NSW Development Corporation (UGDC) reports a statment from the SMDA on 22 December 2012.

The former court house is to remain at its existing building height and the old police station can be replaced with a maximum 3 to 6 storey building. The FSR for the whole site is 1.3:1 and the site is to be zoned as Business Zone – Local Centre. The combined site is to be a Community Health Centre.

It was believed that tenants should be included in the decision making process which directly affects their everyday life.
