The historian is also giving a talk during History Week that will highlight prominent historical figures from Waterloo, and Alexandria. This talk is on Saturday 4 September at Customs House Library. 2.30pm. is titled "Colourful Characters of South Sydney".
Waterloo's sesquicentenary

The City historian will be giving a talk at Waterloo Library on Saturday 30 October. 2pm for 2.30pm. The focus will be Waterloo's sesquicentenary. There will be a small display associated with this that will be up in the library. It will be promoted in the library newsletter and in the library itself.
The Redfern Red Sox Baseball Day

New Baseball Club The Redfern Red Sox is running a try baseball day at National Centre for Indigenous Excellence 180 George St Redfern on the 31st July from 10am till noon for children 5 and over to try baseball free of charge (for the day)followed by free sausage sizzle. Children who enjoy the sport will have the opportunity to join the club and play in a summer baseball competition against other clubs. Every participating child receives a prize.
Save Leamington Avenue Meeting - 5 July 2010

Darlington Food Garden Meeting - Saturday 15 May 2010, 2pm - 5pm

When Council talked to local residents about upgrading Charles Kernan Reserve it was suggested it might include a food garden. In response an area has now been set aside for food growing, and will be developed as part of the renewal of the reserve. Council are holding a meeting for those who wish to be involved with the Food Garden on May 15. The letter sent to those who expressed an interest earlier is below.
Redfern Waterloo Heritage Taskforce Eveleigh Sub-Committee

The Redfern Waterloo Heritage Taskforce has been established to identify opportunities for the active conservation, interpretation and, where appropriate, the adaptive reuse of the heritage of the Redfern Waterloo area, in tandem with the revitalisation and renewal of the area. A project based approach has been chosen in order to achieve a broad and comprehensive treatment of the area’s diverse heritage values. The Taskforce is also seeking to establish a Sub-Committee to specifically address matters relating to the heritage of the former Eveleigh Railway Workshops.
Save Leamington Avenue Community Group Aims

The public meeting on 5 July 2010 voted to establish a community group called "Friends of The Pines Estate Conservation Area (Known as 'Save Leamington Avenue'". The Meeting agreed to incorporate and adopted the aims below.

The Save Leamington Avenue Group established their own website on 26 July 2010. You can find out the latest about the group and the campaign to Save Leamington Avenue from saveleamingtonavenue.org. As the decisions Transport NSW will make about the "Relief Line" will impact on Redfern, Eveleigh and Darlington we will still update this section of the website with information relevant to our area.

Leamington Avenue Resumption Warning Leaflet - June 2010

The unsigned leaflet below was distributed to residents in Leamington Avenue in early June 2010. It warned residents of State Government Plans which may lead to the resumption of land in Leamington Avenue at MacDonaldtown adjoining North Eveleigh. The text of the leaflet is below as is a copy of the map from a study in 2002 for RailCorp showing impacted properties. On June 4 Andrew West in the SMH ran a story "Rail tunnel plan threatens historic homes" on the issue.
