Once again it is time to go to Maitland for the Steamfest Festival. As with last year the only scheduled heritage train service running from Sydney Terminal will be the Old Mateland Steamfest Flyer, a special charter with a heritage diesel locomotive pulling heritage carriages.

The maps that appears in the Preliminary Concept Plan have been reduced in size to make the document size electronically manageable. As a result the detail on the maps is blurred and the Colour in the Legend and the map do not match. We have pointed these problems out to the RWA and they have supplied us with a higher resolution version of the maps on pages 20 and 21 of their submission (NOTE PDF File is 4.7MB). Please note that the Preliminary Concept Plan is indicative of what the RWA were planning in January 2008 and their final Concept Plan which has to address the items raised in the Director Generals Requirements may differ from what is set out in this Preliminary Concept Plan.

This is the copy of the Director General's requirements for RWA's North Eveleigh Concept Plan Application. We have overlayed text from OCR (Optical Character recognition). OCR can be inaccurate so please check any text copied against the scanned document to ensure there are no OCR errors in the text you are selecting. By creating an OCR version the text in the DGRs can be found by search engines such as Google which is not possible with a scanned version as is placed on the Department of Planning's website. In January 2008 the Redfern Waterloo Authority submitted their Major Project Application for the Redevelopment for residential, commercial, retail and cultural uses of North Eveleigh. On March 13 2008 the Minister for Planning declared the proposal to be a major project under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

On 8 April 2008, Frasers Property held a briefing for Planning Minister Frank Sartor and the Media to announce that they were applying to the Department of Planning to Amend the 'old Kent Brewery' site on Broadway to provide "World-class architecture, innovative sustainability initiatives and a new inner-city square for Sydney". This section covers that announcement and subsequent material on the Amended Concept Plan.

Lights Camera Action will be hosting a movie night as a part of Youth Week celebrations. BBQ at the Redfern Community Centre next Wednesday the 9th of April. Babana Aboriginal Mens Group will also be hosting a BBQ featuring performances by local artists. All welcome!

The City of Sydney Council commenced a long term planning project for Sydney in 2007 and made public their Draft Sustainable Sydney 2030 Plan on 26th March 2008. Following the report being considered by Council it will go on exhibition from April 17 to may 31 2008. Here we have some links to the documents on exhibition and a summary showing specific references to Redfern Waterloo.

The lemma Government is launching an initiative to investigate ways to crack down on illegal graffiti, including photographing graffiti 'tags' before painting over them reports this media release from Minister for Housing Matt Brown on 12th march 2008.
