Trevor ‘The Paperboy’ Davies takes a new shape at Mundine’s Gym

South Sydney Herald founder and co-editor, Trevor Davies, is being sponsored by Mundine’s Gym in an effort to get papers delivered to readers faster. Trevor, whose editorial instincts influence the content of each SSH, enjoys the feedback he gets from local readers and has begun training at Mundine’s Gym so he can meet more of them reports Joseph Correy in the South Sydney Herald August 2006.

The three-day a week plan involves cardio, weights and running, on the same equipment used by local champions Anthony ‘The Man’ Mundine and Peter ‘The Chief’ Graham. Trevor ‘The Paperboy’ Davies said, “I’ve lost a fair bit of weight but at 95 Kilos I’m still too heavy. I just want to lose my man boobs, I don’t want double chins, and I want to live to be 100. I’ve had a couple of go’s at losing weight and I’m sure this time I will - with the help of Mundine’s Gym.”

“I’d like to see more locals using the gym. South Sydney holds a variety of wonderful people and we need them to live healthy and long lives. If Mundine’s Gym can produce champion boxers then surely it can get people like myself back into shape.”

The manager of Mundine’s Gym, Alex Tui, said, “I’ve known Trevor for a good many years and he’s finally making the step up to the Gym. I’m really looking forward to working with him. He’ll be happier with his condition when he finishes here. He might even end up being a regular.”

In recent years, Mundine’s Gym has had trouble attracting members of the community. Tui said, “We’re trying to attract more people to the gym. You don’t have to be a professional fighter to come here, but you can benefit from the knowledge of them and their trainers. I think a lot of people have heard of the gym but they’re a bit worried about checking it out because of the area’s reputation. What they don’t realise is there’re a whole lot of people similar to them who are comfortable coming to the gym.”

A special fitness scheme has been devised for Trevor, who admitted he wasn’t planning on becoming a professional fighter anytime soon. He said he hoped the training would not only increase his speed but also the strength and accuracy of his paper throwing arm.

The South Sydney Herald urges readers to encourage Trevor as he continues on the paper route and road to a healthy lifestyle.

This month Mundine’s Gym will also be farewelling local champion Peter Graham who has secured a lucrative deal to fight in Japan. The South Sydney Herald wishes him a safe and successful journey to the land of the rising sun.
