Paperboy puts on three kilos after one month of gruelling training

South Sydney Herald editor Trevor 'The Paperboy' Davies has gained three kilograms in the past month despite taking part in an intensive fitness program at Mundine's Gym in Redfern reports Joseph Conn in the South Sydney Herald of September 2006.

Gym trainer Alex Tui said the Paperboy wasn't a lost cause, or a freak of nature, and speculated that Trevor had added the extra kilos due to an increase in muscle from lifting weights.

"We'll have to see how he goes at the next weigh in but we're pretty desperate to see some significant weight loss. Trev is aiming to e 85 kilos by the end of November and I still think it's possible."

Trevor appeared unfazed by the weight gain when he spoke to the South Sydney Herald. Two years ago, he was a patient of the Royal Prince Alfred's obesity clinic and weighed 118 kilos. The Paperboy now weighs 95 kilos and is determined to lose more.

"When times get hard and it all seems too much I just think of the children on my delivery route," Trevor said.

"I think about the look in their eyes when they sit down to read a South Sydney Herald for the first time. It keeps Me going, at the gym and on the job." In a shock move that will provide a boost to Mundine's Gym, Hillsong Church head honcho Leigh Coleman has paid Trevor's gym membership for the next three months.

"I'm doing this to help both Trevor and Mundine's Gym," Coleman said.

"Given who Trevor is, a little motivation might be helpful in seeing that he follows through on this commitment."

The Hillsong gesture surprised Trevor as Uniting Church and Hillsong culture differ markedly in a number of areas. Trevor said he accepted the contribution and would enter into an "unholy alliance" if it helped the gym.

Coleman said, "South Sydney Herald readers or local businesses should join us in supporting the gym and pay a month or three of Trevor's membership. The gym is a historic part of Redfern's history and provides an invaluable service to the community. They deserve our support."

Readers interested in supporting Mundine's Gym should contact Alex Tui on 0412 856 147. Three months gym fees cost $120. All sponsorship and donations will be mentioned on the South Sydney Herald sports page.
