Row over new Health Centre

A NEW $10-million health centre is a win for the Redfern Community according to the State Government, but some have asked what was wrong with the facility at the Rachel Forster Hospital site.

The health centre was recently approved by the Planning Department and will be in the former Redfern Court House. It will create up to 94 jobs and will provide mental health and drug health services.

Community group REDWatch spokesman Geoff Turnbull questioned the need to close the former health centre, which had operated out of the Rachel Forster Building.

"I think the main health centre we had was fine, but once the State Government decided it wanted to sell the site, it had to find another one," he said.

"There was a hydrotherapy pool and they are not easy to come by, the new one won't have one."
