Hip Hop Heaven

A Hip Hop Festival will be held in Sydney on March 27 and 28 2009 reports Nick Soon in the Blacktown Sun of 12 March 2009.

The event at CarriageWorks,Wilson Street, Eveleigh features hip hop culture that includes Breaking, Graffiti, Beatboxing, MCing and DJing.

At Platform 2, old skoolers and hip hop novices can feel the vibe of Australian Hip Hop culture with two nights of entertainment and skills workshops.

They include breakdancing by Demi (from So You Think You Can Dance) and free events like graffiti comps, shakedowns and Mays Lane Street art exhibition.

A spokeswoman said more than 3000 people attended the festival last year.

She is expecting more people with about 60 emerging and established artists and performers to be featured in this year's festival.

Events will be hosted by Platform 2's artistic director Nick Power and hip hop veteran Morganics and Sydney's graff artists Shime and Chez.

Opening night brings over 20 of the best Hip Hop artists together on Platform 2 stage.

They include Bravo Child, Scott Burns, Gabi, Herb, Breakers, Demolition, B*Girl, Pepito (national b*boy champion), Red, B*Girl Flix, DJs Jay Tee, Nick Toth, Sandro, Ability and vocalists Sistanative, Al Young (Good Buddha) and Ranji.

Australia's top hip hop crews will battling it out for the Platform 2 title and the $1,200 prize money.

A free street art exhibition will be held from March 25 to April 6 in connection with the festival.

The Mays Lane Street Art Project emerges from their St Peters laneway to take over CarriageWorks foyer for a huge retrospective exhibition.

Curated by Tugi Balog, the showcase will include over 30 large scale artworks created between 2005 and 2008 by graff artists of Sydney and celebrated international street artists.
