It's NOT Just ' moving your feet

Our ' Healthy Walking Breakfast ' is not just a case of 'moving your feet ' , during the walk , conversations are had and ideas exchanged , acknowledgements are made and advice given writes Mark Spinks. Examples of the ' walk in action ' are :-

A conversation with one of the members during one of the walks identified the availability of motorised scooters for people having trouble getting about due to personal disability and Don Clarke our Sec / treasurer became the proud receipent of one , because of  -  ' the walk ' .

We learnt of the acceptance of one members son into a private school and another's gran son into an apprenticeship with RWA  because of a conversation during  ' the walk ',  and , after breakfast , the group acknowledged those two young fellas with a round of applause and the promise of ongoing mentoring and support . Monday morning we kept our promise and went to the RWA job site at 07:00am with the young fella and spoke with Rohan Tobler the Aboriginal Projects Manager , we followed the same pattern today
( tue) and have arranged a meeting with the RWA CEO for 02:00pm today Oct 13 to get more youth into the program and give similar ongoing support .

We learnt of the successful employment application of one of our members with Aboriginal Hostels in Alice Springs ( commences Oct. 19 )  and we , as a group , are now exploring the possibility of sending youth and mentors from our youth group on a cultural exchange to Alice   because of  -  ' the walk ' .

Several Members fronted up from day one with inappropriate footwear and we promised we would buy them
' proper shoes ' if they completed 4 successive walks -  Sunday October 11 We kept our promise !!

The walk gives companionship and an  ' ear '  to those who live alone and , although our time together is ephemeral , long lasting friendships and impressions are made .

So you see it's not just a group of men going for a walk on Sunday mornings,  but a group exchanging ideas , information , support and friendship , opening our hearts and minds as we ' move our feet ' ! .
