Every Wednesday students are led through hip hop inspired routines by resident teacher Michael ‘Sisqo’ Francisco.

Urban Dance Centre co-director Julie Williamson, is passionate about using her profile and experience in the dance industry to give back to the local community.

“(The centre) offers classes to such a variety of demographics from young children to professional dancers, that we wanted to offer a class to youth who might want to experience dance but due to circumstances would not have the opportunity,” Ms Williamson said.

With the program now supporting 15 students, the centre hopes to one day take one or two students through a full-time Certificate IV in Performing Arts Course on scholarship and eventually into a career in dance. Students have performed at the Family Culture Day in Redfern and on the Barefoot Rugby League Show.

Any company or individual who would like to become involved in the outreach program will receive such satisfaction for their contribution, and may contact Julie Williamson at julie@urbandancecentre.com.
