Waterloo Concierge Trial

On 19 February 2010 the NSW Premier announced a $12 million three-year program – which includes "concierge" style front desk staff, on the ground maintenance teams, and extra security measures, especially at night - will be trialled at six Waterloo high-rise public housing buildings to improve safety for their 1,500 residents.

Training and Employment projects are important in helping some people in public housing gain the skills to enter the workforce. While there are projects aimed at Aboriginal Employment by the RWA the difficult area of skilling non Aboriginal tenants has tended to be left to initiatives lead by Non-Government Agencies.
Waterloo Green

Waterloo Green surrounds the main Waterloo high rise public housing. The land is owned by HNSW and residents have complained about anti-social activity exacerbated by lack of maintenance in the area for many years. In many respects the issues of Waterloo Green bring together many of the issues facing Redfern Waterloo which require co-ordinated action by various human services government departments and no-government agencies.

For the last two years, the Waterloo NAB has being piloting a new framework of engagement; this was achieved through the establishment of four thematic Action Groups. The time has come to review the progress of this new framework and celebrate the successes, and look at the lessons learnt and plan together for the framework which will take us through the next two years. Redfern Safety Audit Area forum follow up meeting

Over 50 Redfern residents joined staff from NSW Police, the City of Sydney, the Factory Community Centre and Housing NSW to conduct a safety audits in 7 precincts of the Redfern public housing area over the last 8 weeks. The next step is an area forum at which the key findings and proposed action will be presented for comment by the community. We will also draw the prize for a $100 voucher for residents who took part in the audits.

The historian is also giving a talk during History Week that will highlight prominent historical figures from Waterloo, and Alexandria. This talk is on Saturday 4 September at Customs House Library. 2.30pm. is titled "Colourful Characters of South Sydney".
Waterloo's sesquicentenary

The City historian will be giving a talk at Waterloo Library on Saturday 30 October. 2pm for 2.30pm. The focus will be Waterloo's sesquicentenary. There will be a small display associated with this that will be up in the library. It will be promoted in the library newsletter and in the library itself.
The Redfern Red Sox Baseball Day

New Baseball Club The Redfern Red Sox is running a try baseball day at National Centre for Indigenous Excellence 180 George St Redfern on the 31st July from 10am till noon for children 5 and over to try baseball free of charge (for the day)followed by free sausage sizzle. Children who enjoy the sport will have the opportunity to join the club and play in a summer baseball competition against other clubs. Every participating child receives a prize.
