This document has had key differences between the Waterloo Estate and Waterloo Metro Quarter requirements highlighted by REDWatch to assist readers identify the differences between the two sets of requirements. This is a guide only. While we have taken care in this comparison we can not guarantee that all differences have been identified. Readers should rely on their own comparisons. On 26 May 2017 NSW Planning and Environment posted the Study Requirements for the Waterloo State Significant Precinct. Please note that there are two different sets of study requirements in this document and they are not identical - one covers the Waterloo Estate (pages 8-32) and the other covers the Metro quarter (pages 35-55). A Social Sustainability Assessment is required for the Estate but not for the Metro Quarter. Here is the link to the requirements.

With the State Significant Precinct declaration Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) have released to the Waterloo Redevelopment Group an outline of the master plan timeline. The pink and blue lines indicate the stages on the time line and the green boxes above contain an outline of the activities expected during that month. The letters in the top right hand corner is the first letter of the month that activities are expected.

Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) have advised that there will be master plan consultants on Waterloo Estate on Friday 25 and 26 May 2017.

Land and Housing Corporation advised that a quick Traffic Study was being undertaken on Tuesday 23 May 2017. The traffic study will be measuring current traffic levels – vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle of the greater Waterloo area.

Following the State Significant Precinct declaration for Waterloo on 18 May 2017 additional information was placed on both the NSW Planning and Environment's website and on the Communities Plus website. REDWatch provided the following initial unpacking of the declaration announcement to members, supporters and agencies on 21 May 2016.

This map is has been shown on the Waterloo page of UrbanGrowth's Central to Eveleigh website. It shows the area of public housing subject to redevelopment as well as the area resumed for the new Metro Station development. Areas along Wellington Street and Cope Street between Wellington and John Streets are not shown as part of the estate because they are privately owned. These sites but are covered by the Waterloo State Significant Precinct study to change planning controls and master plan the estate and the area above the station.
News Item Waterloo Nominated as State Significant Precinct kicks off Master Planning by REDWatch, last updated: May 19, 2017 10:13 AM
Waterloo has been nominated by the NSW Government as a new State Significant Precinct which formally kicks off the master planning of the site. Residents have been advised by staff involved in the master planning that the master planning will commence with a month of capacity building with consultation workshops planned to commence towards the end of June/beginning of July. The Communities Plus website will be updated soon as the Department of Planning and Environment’s website. A newsletter to residents is planned for next week.

Eveleigh Heritage rail operator, 3801 Ltd, after two years of difficult dealings with Transport Heritage NSW, was locked out of Eveleigh’s Large Erecting Shop (LES) at the end of January 2017. It can no longer operate its scheduled trips including the Cockatoo Run to the Illawarra and tours which collaborate with the cruise ship industry. Anything that leaves the LES cannot be returned to it.

With 3801 Ltd locked in a battle with Transport for NSW to be able to stay at the Large Erecting Shop (LES) in 2017 under a Berejiklian government, it is interesting to look back at the comments Gladys Berejiklian made in 2006 as then Shadow Transport Minister when 3801 Ltd was locked in a similar battle with the then NSW Labour government. You can see these in the media release below. What is the current equivalent of "A NSW Liberal/Nationals Government would ensure RailCorp renews the existing lease and was prevented from disposing of any of the rolling stock"? Maybe it is time for Gladys to take a personal interest in what is currently happening to 3801 Ltd to ensure they get a renewed lease and can continue to operate out of Eveleigh.

We have just been informed un-expectantly that despite previous advice that Ross’s remains would not be released till Feb 2018 that in fact someone has organised his cremation for next week. The details advised to us are below in an email from Mike Shreenan at the Factory.

In January 2017 the Aboriginal Housing Company received the requirements from the Department of planning for amending their approval to increase the maximum height of the student housing component of the Pemulwuy Project from a maximum 6 stories to a maximum 16 stories to make the project self funding. Here you will find details relating to that application and its community engagement.
