Eveleigh Railway Workshops

A recent National Trust meeting with the Office of Rail Heritage has confirmed some significant progress in the Trust’s campaign to have the historic workshops, their collections and associated specialised traditional skills recognised and conserved reports National Trust (NSW) E-Newsletter January 2009.

The RailCorp Board has approved, subject to funding, the retention of the Large Erecting Shop for rail heritage purposes. The Trust had been concerned that this building was threatened by redevelopment. It is also understood that the Office of Rail Heritage has no objection to the consideration of the National Heritage Listing of the Large Erecting Shop. The Trust has supported an application for grant funding for a package boiler to operate historic steam hammers in the Blacksmith’s Shop in the Australian Technology Park at Eveleigh.
