Cabinet Approves New Urban Renewal SEPP
"State cabinet has approved a new State Environmental Planning Policy for urban renewal, which is designed to bring 770,000 new dwellings into urban areas, and provide 60,000 jobs in the next 25 years. The government has announced that it will apply to Newcastle, along with the previously announced suburbs of Redfern-Waterloo and Granville in Sydney" reports this news item from the ABC on November 1 2010.
Corrective Services drops Plans for Darlington site

On October 22 2010 Approval was given for the 18 Storey Mixed Use Residential/Commercial/Retail development above existing carpark at 7-9 Gibbons Street, Redfern.
CoS Response to REDWatch Discussion Paper
Following is the text of a letter received from City of Sydney Lord mayor Clover Moore on 20 October 2010 in response to the REDWatch Discussion Paper on the Redevelopment of the Redfern Waterloo public housing estates.
Correctional Centre DA to be Withdrawn
On Friday 29 October Carmel Tebbutt advised that she had "received advice that Corrective Services NSW has reconsidered the proposed Darlington site. The Community Offender Services Office will remain at its current Newtown location." This article provides background from REDWatch on the proposal to establish a Correction Services office at 145-151 Cleveland Street Darlington. There was community concern about the lack of information regarding the facility and the possible impact on the surrounding residential neighbourhood. The DA is currently still on exhibition but give the advice from Carmel Tebbutt it is expected the DA will be withdrawn.
HNSW Redfern and Waterloo Renewal - Areas of Responsibility
Housing NSW released the following list showing the areas of responsibility of various people associated with the HNSW Redfern and Waterloo Renewal / Preliminary Masterplan at a workshop on 7 October 2010. HNSW have undertaken to update details on the list as changes take place so residents are aware of the roles played by various staff and advisors involved with the project. The release of the list follows a request by REDWatch.

What Should Happen regarding Consultation on BEP2
REDWatch is concerned that the RWA will follow the same process used for their earlier Built Environment Plan (BEP) for BEP2 covering the public housing areas of Redfern and Waterloo. The earlier process involved removing the area from the control of council and only allowing a statutory exhibition. Here we raise some of REDWatch’s concerns.
RWA Statement on Sydney Metropolitan Development Authority
The CEO of the RWA advised that the work of the RWA will continue as per the current plans and that the Australian Technology Park will remain part of the RWA and will ultimately be transferred to the SMDA in this statement on 29 September 2010 regarding the RWA and the Sydney Metropolitan Development Aiuthority (SMDA).
RWA subsumed by new Sydney Metropolitan Development Authority
As a priority, the authority will focus on areas currently administered by the Redfern Waterloo Authority, including North Eveleigh and the Australian Technology Park. It is anticipated Redfern and Granville will be the two priority areas for the SMDA over the next 12 months. Both Updates contained the article on HNSW's pre-development baseline survey titled "Community Survey - a chance to win". The Updates also contained details of the new Housing Teams servicing each area and other information specific to the area.
