Idol auditions at Redfern

Narrow definitions of talent are gone and the hunt for genuine individuality is on at Eveleigh this weekend, where auditions for the seventh series of Australian Idol are underway reports Kim Shaw on Central on 16 May 2009.

Judge Ian Dicko Dickson has been with the show for four seasons and has seen just about every configuration of humanity on the planet.

Dicko said his definition of talent had changed since he began with the popular TV talent quest.

We sill want a really talented voice but exactly what that means had changed, he said.

We are far more open to peoples individuality these days than we were before. It has become a new currency in the record industry.

When we first started we were looking for someone who fitted what we were looking for.

Yesterday in Melbourne there was a brick layer who had never sung to anyone in his life before and who was absolutely sensational.

He looked like David Beckham and hadnt sung for anybody except from the back seat of a car
