TV chef nabbed for drink driving

CELEBRITY TV chef, Jared Ingersoll, has narrowly escaped losing his driver's licence after he found himself in hot water with a drink-driving charge before Christmas writes Larissa Cummings in The Daily Telegraph 13 January 2010.

The star of Ten's hit cooking show, Ready Steady Cook, pleaded guilty to low-range drink driving in Waverley Local Court, but was let off with a good behaviour bond.

Ingersoll, 37, who owns popular Waterloo foodie haunt, Danks Street Depot, was pulled over by a police RBT unit at 3.15am on December 4, last year.

He recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.07 and told police he had consumed five alcoholic drinks after finishing work for the night.

Representing himself, Mr Ingersoll told the court he regularly devoted his time to charities to help local children in his area with literacy and numerousy programs.

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge took into account his good character and prior untarnished driving record in allowing him to keep his licence.

She found the offence proved but recorded no conviction under a Section 10 bond and ordered him to be of good behaviour for 18 months.

"If you come back, you'll want to brace yourself because the opportunity for leniency has now been spent," she said.
