HNSW Preliminary Masterplan - Updates for residents - Community Facilities - 17 Sept 2011
This month the Redfern Waterloo Preliminary Master Plan Project is focusing on connections in and around the neighbourhoods reports an Update from Housing NSW on 17 September 2011. Student Accommodation for 157 Cleveland Street
A proposal for student accommodation at 157 Cleveland Street has seen student accommodation provider urbanest commenced door-knocking and letter boxing (of the letter below) for the 157 Cleveland St project on 30 August 2011. This lead up to a community meeting on Saturday 17 September 2011 in the Redfern Community Centre at 9.30am. The plans being considered are on the urbanest website at the link at the bottom of this item.
Transfer of land in Redfern to the Aboriginal Housing Company from Council
The City proposes to transfer this land to the Aboriginal Housing Company, to help provide housing and other facilities for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, for $20. The transfer of land for a nominal sum reflects the City of Sydney’s support of the project. The transfer of land to the Aboriginal Housing Company proposal will be on public exhibition 1 August to 5 September 2011 states this notice for Council of 10 July 2011.
RWA Releases BEP2 Stakeholder Engagement Report
The Redfern-Waterloo Authority (RWA) has released the Stakeholder Engagement Report for the Built Environment Plan Stage 2 (BEP 2). The report prepared by Mediate Today, the RWA response and a media release have been placed on the RWA website on 22 July 2011. Below you will find a link to the documents. Sydney Uni Abercrombie Street Update - 7 July 2011
Sydney University Director of Campus Infrastructure and Services, Colin Rockliff, issued the following update on Sydney University revising their plans for the Abercrombie Street campus on 7 July 2011. The next meeting to discuss these plans between the University and Residents is 9am 19th July at the University Services building.
Redfern mourns the death of community activist Trevor Davies
The Redfern community is mourning the death of REDwatch founding member Trevor Davies following his death on Tuesday. Mr Davies will be remembered for founding and editing the South Sydney Herald and for his community activism and commitment to social justice writes Tara Blancato in the City News of 16 June 2011.
SMDA Receives Urban Renewal Brief from Department of Planning
The SMDA has received its brief for both the Redfern and Waterloo and Granville areas under the State Environment Planning Policy (Urban Renewal) 2010. The briefs set out the areas the SMDA is required by the study to investigate and make recommendations upon.
