WAYS Youth Employment Service is running a campaign to reverse the Commonwealth decision to defund the service and are asking members of the community for support of a peaceful and non disruptive rally outside of the office of Mr Peter Garrett the Member for Kingsford Smith which incorporates the Maroubra area.

Each year the Factory Community Centre host the Annual Volunteer Awards for Redfern and Waterloo. Nominations have been made, those nominated and their friends have been invited to attend the above celebration. The Factory CC will also be celebrating the recent upgrades to the centre.
Finders Keepers Autumn/Winter 09 design markets - 15 & 16 May 2009

Following the success of the very first Finders Keepers design markets held in December, the founders Sarah Thornton and Brooke Johnston have announced new dates for Autumn/Winter 2009. The Finders Keepers market will once again be held at contemporary art centre CarriageWorks in Sydneyʼs Inner West and will showcase over 75 young designers, artists and musicians.

Memorial Sculpture in honour of the work of Mum Shirl and Father Ted Kennedy

The Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School and Community of St Vincent’s Church Redfern are inviting public comment on a memorial to the shared work Fr Ted and Mum Shirl. The presentation with model and photographs will take place at the Block. The sculpture is abstract in expression and presents the spirit of Mum Shirl and Ted Kennedy through connecting hands. Their lives exemplified the best of the Australian spirit. They worked to establish a society where justice, dignity and freedom could be enjoyed by all citizens, whether Aboriginal or settlers.

The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (initially referred to as the National Indigenous Development Centre) operates from the Former Redfern Public School site which was purchased by the Federal Government's Indigenous Land Corporation. The facility is operated by the YMCA in partnership with the ILC.
