Family and Culture Day

Family and Culture Day, a grassroots community oriented event, is at The Block in Redfern. The aim of this event, which takes place on the last Saturday of each month, is to bring families back to The Block and to show off the incredible talent within the Redfern Indigenous community. For the children there is a jumping castle, face painting and other entertainment.

Aboriginal Women’s Corroboree

Join Aboriginal women making a stand against domestic violence and sexual assault at the Aboriginal Women’s Corroboree at Alexandria Town Hall, 73 Garden St, Alexandria. There will be song and dance from Aboriginal women and children, an Elders tent, stalls, a free sausage sizzle and also speeches from various women.

Jim Diers in the first speaker at “Redfern Waterloo Communities and Renewal Forum” forum and he will focus on community and Government working together to achieve renewal. The rest of the forum also promises to be of importance for Redfern Waterloo as Bruce Judd from UNSW is running an introductory session on Master Planning for people with no planning experience and this will be followed by a presentation on community renewal research followed by a discussion in which you will be asked to help shape a research program for Redfern and Waterloo.
Waterloo NABs – Community Safety Action Group

The meetings is open to all agencies and residents working on Community Safety projects and crime prevension issues within the Waterloo area. There will also be an update on the progress of the Waterloo Green Action Plan.

An information session for local services and stakeholders about the implementation of the Waterloo Green Neighbourhood Project, a three year pilot project that will be implemented in six high rise buildings in Waterloo. The project comprises three new services, each of which will provide employment and training opportunities for social housing residents.

Graffiti vandalism has negative financial and social impact upon the community, specifically residents, business owners, local government and transport operators. Graffiti Action Day is a result of a partnership between Keep Australia Beautiful & the NSW Government and is a first for Australia! The key aims of the Graffiti Action Day are to: • Engage the community in removal of graffiti • Raise awareness of good graffiti removal methods • Support non-government and community run facilities in repairing damage caused by graffiti
