NSW Govt unveils housing plan for Redfern

The New South Wales government has unveiled plans for the redevelopment of a public housing site at Redfern in central Sydney reports ABC news on April 27, 2007.

The estate in Elizabeth Street has 106 units.

It will be transformed into more than 260 apartments and terrace houses.

More than half of the new project will be sold privately to offset the cost.

The Deputy Director General of the Department of Housing, Paul Vevers, says the Government has consulted existing tenants about the plans.

"They will have the choice to remain in the inner-city, and so we will re-house them there," he said.

"They will have the choice to remain in the locations where they are re-housed, or they will have the choice to return to this location when it's redeveloped."
