Surry Hills Festival April 18: Bring your bike

Wedged between two housing towers in a car park in Phillip Street, Waterloo is Cycle Recycle, a-do-it-yourself bike maintenance club where people drop in to repair and rebuild their bikes from scratch reports Kim Shaw in Central on 7 April 2009.

Started by Morris Wells and JP Williamson from a backyard in Newtown three years ago, the idea grew legs and now entails a weekly workshop.

“People come with broken bikes or they build a new bike from parts we have. We retrieve dumped bikes from the streets,’’ long-term volunteer James Nichols said.

Cycle Recycle will run free “Dr Bike’’ repair workshops at the Surry Hills Festival on April 18 from 10am in the Wheelzone.

You can show off your hot bike and envy other masterful creations at the Surry Hills Festival BikeSydney all-day bike valet parking corral.
