CHIPPENDALE SUSTAINABILITY IMPROVEMENTS
Work begins soon on pedestrian, cycling, traffic and environmental sustainability improvements in Chippendale, implementing the results of consultation and Council planning for the area reports Clover Moore's eNews Friday 22 May 2009 - No. 448.
On Monday 11 May, Council unanimously endorsed a tender for the works, which include:
- footpath widening and re-alignments at key intersections to assist in reducing traffic speeds and improve pedestrian safety;
- pedestrian crossings and footpath widening at the intersections of Broadway and Buckland Street and Regent and Meagher Streets;
- footpath widening along sections of Buckland Street (between Daniel Street and Myrtle Street) and Myrtle Street (between Smithers and Abercrombie Streets); and
- an improved intersection arrangement at Abercrombie and Meagher/Myrtle Streets.
The works also include additional sustainability initiatives which the community identified during the consultation process, including new street trees and garden beds, stormwater harvesting for use in new garden beds and tree pits and permeable paving. A feasibility study into the installation of a 60,000L stormwater tank beside Peace Park has also begun.
