Northcott secures community worker

Housing NSW has vowed to continue funding the community development worker at Northcott public housing estate in Surry Hills for another two-year term reports Robert Burton-Bradley in the Central on 15 August 2009.

The announcement follows a period of uncertainty over future funding for the position. Lord Mayor Clover Moore has been calling for the position to be made permanent.

The community development worker has been supporting tenants and community groups to improve safety and security, including a safety audit, health and safety workshops for the elderly and people with a disability as well as organising other programs.

The Minister for Housing, David Borger, said the Northcott worker would increasingly be involved outside of Northcott, working with the Redfern and Waterloo Housing Communities worker, the University of NSW Community Development Program workers in Waterloo and Glebe and the Inner City Public Tenants Resource Service.
