Sydney city ``most exciting’’ place to live: Community Pulse Survey

Readers from 20 newspapers across Sydney, including those of the Mt Druitt Standard, all agreed the suburb was dull. Blacktown, Redfern, Campbelltown and Liverpool rounded out the top five most boring suburbs. At the other end of the scale the city, Bondi, Manly, Newtown and Parramatta were listed as the most exciting reports Central on 18 November 2009.

EDDIE Merciadez and his mates know the value of good company.

They meet at the Mt Druitt mall every day to talk, play chess and watch the world go by.

It’s something they have been doing for almost 20 years. “We started coming here when Bob Hawke was elected,’’ he said. “And we are here every day, except Sunday.’’

Although they don’t think their daily meetings in Mt Druitt are boring, the rest of Sydney does.

The Western Sydney area was voted Sydney’s most boring suburb in the Cumberland-Courier Newspapers Community Pulse Survey.

Last year more than three million people visited the City of Sydney.

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the city was one of the most sophisticated neighbourhoods in the world. We host world renowned events including the biggest fireworks show on New Year’s Eve, the biggest celebration of Chinese New Year outside of Asia, Sydney Festival, the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, and the Sydney Writers Festival to name a few, she said. Back in Mt Druitt, Mr Merciadez said whoever voted his neighbourhood the most boring was probably from Melbourne.

“We are very happy here,’’ he said.
