Corrective Services drops Plans for Darlington site

"Today I received advice that Corrective Services NSW has reconsidered the proposed Darlington site. The Community Offender Services Office will remain at its current Newtown location." reports this statement from the Members for Marrickville Carmel Tebbutt on 29 October 2010.

Dear Resident

I understand that you recently attended a community meeting regarding the proposed relocation of the Newtown Community Offender Services Office to a property on Cleveland St, Darlington.

The Newtown office provides case management and referral services to offenders under community supervision. The office works closely with a range of government departments, non government organisation and other community support groups.

At that meeting, it was made clear that while local residents support the work undertaken by Corrective Services, they had genuine concerns about the suitability of the proposed site. In particular, residents were concerned about lack of regular public transport and the adverse impact of additional traffic on local residential streets.

Many of you have also written to me to reaffirming these concerns and I have continued to make representations on your behalf to the Corrective Services Minister, Phil Costa.

Today I received advice that Corrective Services NSW has reconsidered the proposed Darlington site. The Community Offender Services Office will remain at its current Newtown location.

Thank you for your interest in this matter.

Carmel Tebbutt
